Abstract
Fog computing provides direct and fast access to computing and storage capabilities near physical devices. This approach not only enables quicker access to services but also reduces dependence on widespread internet connectivity. The Internet of Things (IoT) establishes communication among numerous devices and objects through various protocols. Implementing this network using host-to-host communication models faces challenges due to heterogeneous and resource-constrained devices, different security domains, and the need for both local and global communication. This article examines what fog computing is and how the integration of a Named Data Networking (NDN)-based IoT architecture with fog computing technology works. It explores how this technology can enable more secure and efficient IoT implementations. Finally, a case study is reviewed on the application of fog computing to improve intra-network storage challenges in NDN-based IoT. The case study results clearly demonstrate the impact of fog computing in addressing intra-network caching challenges. The findings indicate the positive effect of using fog computing in enhancing the performance of NDN-based IoT.
